Kendo for every stage of the journey.

Whether you are seven years old stepping onto the dojo floor for the first time, an adult beginning something new, or an experienced practitioner seeking continued development — there is a place for you at LCKA.

Youth & Teens

Kendo provides young students with a structured environment in which they develop focus, discipline, respect, self-control, confidence, perseverance, and character through consistent practice. These qualities are not taught as abstract concepts — they are built through the repeated experience of showing up, listening carefully, trying again after difficulty, and holding themselves to a standard.

Students learn etiquette from the first day: how to bow, how to enter and leave the floor, how to address their instructors and training partners. They develop proper posture and movement, learn the fundamentals of Kendo technique, and progress toward partner practice as their development allows. Responding to instruction, working alongside others, and continuing through challenge are central to the experience.

Advanced Opportunity

Student Instructor Program

Leadership through Kendo.

LCKA's Student Instructor Program is an advanced leadership opportunity for students who have demonstrated both technical achievement and exemplary conduct. Students who have earned 2nd Dan, consistently demonstrate the values of the dojo, and receive instructor review and approval may be appointed as Student Instructors.

Student Instructors gain meaningful leadership experience by helping lead group training, giving commands during exercises, and assisting newer students — always under the direct guidance of LCKA instructors. The program develops responsibility, communication, confidence, mentorship, and a spirit of service. Appointment is not automatic; it reflects a student's readiness to lead.

Adult Beginners

A clear path from the beginning.

No prior martial arts experience is required. Adults who are new to Kendo are welcomed into practice and guided through the fundamentals progressively — beginning with etiquette, posture, and basic movement, and advancing toward footwork, striking mechanics, and partner practice as their development allows.

Kendo is a practice for life, not only for the young or the athletic. Adult beginners at LCKA develop at their own pace within a structured and supportive environment. The emphasis is on correct fundamentals, focused practice, and personal development — with a clear path of progression that does not require prior experience to begin.

Many adult practitioners find that the discipline and focus Kendo requires carry meaningfully into other areas of their lives. The dojo is a place of serious practice and genuine respect, and adult beginners are full members of that community from their first class.

Experienced Practitioners

Continued development. Serious practice.

For practitioners who already have Kendo experience and are looking for a dojo where they can continue serious training, LCKA offers rigorous practice with an emphasis on correct fundamentals, Kata, and Keiko. Technical development does not stop at any rank — the refinement of basics is a lifelong pursuit.

Experienced practitioners at LCKA have the opportunity to pursue ranking examinations and competition. The dojo maintains a serious training environment in which discipline, effort, and respect for the art are expected of every student regardless of rank or experience.

Kendo is a practice that deepens over a lifetime. LCKA welcomes practitioners who approach it with that understanding.

The Path

Progress through practice.

Students at LCKA progress through Kendo over time — from the fundamentals of etiquette, posture, and basic technique toward more advanced practice, Kata, Keiko, ranking examinations, and competition. There is no fixed timeline. Progress in Kendo is built through consistent practice, continued learning, and development over time.
